Junior Academy
An introductory, figure skating program for skaters 5 years and older who demonstrate potential beyond the recreational level. Junior Academy is the next stage of development for skaters with enhanced ability to pursue test/competitive skating. The program introduces skaters to foundations of the sport of figure skating through two 45 minute – 1 hour classes per week and is taught in a small group lesson format by MRSC’s Skate Canada certified professional coaches. Skaters are encouraged to supplement this program with private lessons.
Classes are structured to provide skaters with enhanced coaching, the skills for learning to train and practice appropriately for the sport. Valuable information on skate care, equipment requirements, off and on ice warm-up drills and various educational materials also help to provide fun and exciting ways to learn about the specifics of figure skating.
Participation within the program is by invitation and assessments are conducted in the spring and fall. Skaters previously registered in Jr. Academy will be given priority towards registration.
